Thank you for writing this. Ageing parents is a reality for pretty much all of us and it’s scary. Visiting my mum recently in the UK was a huge shock vs when I saw her a year previously. We three are also trying to manage the situation but her cognitive decline is obvious and we need to help her, but it’s so tricky from afar. She suffered with agonising toothache for weeks without telling us, and my brother ended up having to make an emergency appointment for her and calling her to wake her when the taxi was arriving. It took us about 30 calls to finally get her to answer and be ready. It’s so scary watching a once sharp woman struggle with simple tasks. I feel if we had a closer community then we could rely on others more, but modern life has taken a lot of that away.
