Rain, rain go away …
So here in Bavaria, we’ve had a lot of rain the last two weeks, with most of it falling over the past 5 days. And when I say a lot, I mean A LOT.
There are floods, so many floods, it’s shocking to see the images on the news. I live in the city, and we are lucky enough to — most likely — be left unscathed. The worst that I have had happen so far is that the slugs are enjoying my plants a little too much.
The surrounding areas, however, have been badly affected. People have been evacuated, sandbags have been provided by the army and cellars are flooded. The surrounding cities have been closed off and schools cancelled. So far, one firefighter has died when the small boat he was in capsized in the floodwaters.
This is the kind of thing you see on the news and think how terrible it is, but luckily it’s nowhere near me.
When it’s no longer somewhere else
Well this IS near me. I know people who are affected, I know of people whose houses are flooded. It suddenly becomes a lot more real when it’s so close to home. If this was to affect us, would our insurance cover any damages? Would we lose all our possessions? (That’s for another post, but having fewer possessions isn’t…
